Description: Supervised observation and practice in an information setting. The field experience typically takes place in a library or another information agency. Faculty-led seminars and a paper enhance the experience.
Concepts:
As part of SILS' Field Experience Program, I worked full-time in Duke University Libraries' Digital Projects Department (DPD; in Bostock Library) from May 16 to August 11, 2006. Work in DPD involved implementing Web sites using DukeWeb (based on the Cascade Server application--formerly ContentXML), a content management system. I assisted with maintenance to existing sites and development of new Web sites. I was involved in consulting with librarians and other library staff, assessing needs, designing and evaluating sites (including usability testing), and assisted with documentation and training.
